How old do you need to be to be thoroughly ticked off by idiots who slam their shoes on any available seat on public transport. However old , that's where I'm at. Would they be offended if I wiped my bum on their jeans do you think? Cos thats what they're doing: think of all the unspeakable stuff you walk through, then imagine it on the back of your trousers, skirt et al.
So - how do you handle these morons? Tips please cos I'm seething daily but scared I'll get punched (or worse) if I speak.
Ditto: food eaters and nose pickers who then wipe fingers on their seat, sniffers, blatant rubbish tossers and general litterers.
And don't get me started on the pram nazis.
Ooh - and coming up from behind- yes its the wobbly one-handle-holding cyclist who thinks they can manage a bike in London traffic / on London's pavements while texting / making a call on their mobile! God may just leave you a message after the beep!
Passing on Spam emails: PLEASE CHECK BEFORE YOU FORWARD..If its in a font over 12 points or multi coloured, or makes a too good to be true offer, do us all a favour and check it out on : www.hoax-slayer.com
we have tried the 'freecycle.co.uk' site, Gumtree's Freebies site, and 'free2collect.co.uk', but am afraid they prove how hard it is to give anything away. Worth a try though. Have a photo ready!
There are a couple of charities who ask for same: details of one follows - and other stuff they are looking for is listed on this link: http://www.yeldall.org.uk/page/support_us
All donations of furniture for Yeldall Manor are handled by Chissock Woodcraft,
an independent Social Enterprise.
Offering a professional furniture renovation service, they particularly
welcome donations of old wooden furniture that can be repaired and sold
to raise funds for the project. Contact them on 0118 940 4499.
In West London, the Trinity Shop still welcomes donations of furniture.Tel: 020 8797 9505
Uses for shredded paper: we'd welcome more but have 1 ( not counting small animal bedding): layer your compost heap with shredded paper- helps with the process.
Skinning tomatoes: forget the water wasting finger burning 'hold under hot water' trick: and also save dosh: freeze tomatoes if they are nearing their use by date. When you need them ( say for Passata or a sauce), defrost-and the skin just lifts off. Jobv done.
Growing herbs: don't waste your money buying parsley and rocket ( others too but these two are like weeds): get a packet of seeds, throw them into your garden, cover with a fine layer of vermiculite if you want to be kind ( but they'll be fine without it), stand back and wait for the shoots. They'll go to seed if it gets too dry or hot- but let them- and push seeds back into the soil- they'll just keep coming. I nowe have a parsley and rocket forest in my front garden. I have also used mustard and fennel seeds ( huge packs for a quid from the Indian spices section) and they also will come good (not as reliably as packet seed though).
World's best stain remover: liquid wool wash or delicates wash mixed with a little white vinegar ( equal parts, maybe a bit more vinegar than detergent), into an old spray bottle and Bob's yer uncle. It'll clean anything up.
Transferring numbers and texts from old phone to new phone: try www.mobyko.com: Choose your phone from the images and create an account . Once that's done Mobyko sends you a text to guide you through the process, transferring your contacts to its server. You can upload your 'must be saved forever' texts here too. Then when you change /lose your phone you can download the numbers to your new handset. You can also update your contacts online. And its free!
Quite a few recyclers for media industry waste materials (tapes, DVDs etc) now exist. We are featuring Kwik Sweep as they target our industry, and will offer a discount to anyone who comes through our page. Kwik Sweep remove and recycle everything from production office paper, sets,
flats, props, to DVDs, CDs, fluorescent tubes, ink cartridges, fabrics and batteries.
At the end of a shoot/show we understand that speed in clearing
up is a priory for the production team. This is why we employ experienced
freelance runners, gaffers, and researchers. Because we're committed to
reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills, everything that can be
recycled and re-used will be.
Kwik Sweep is a fully licenced (by the environmental agency) clearance service.
Freelancers beware.. more & more clients expect you to carry your own Insurance: personal & professional indemnity as well as public liability. We highly recommend you invest in all 3. For editors, designers and producers this covers you for any action of yours that may delay transmission, and damage that you may do to the clients' kit, and much more. It is also another plank in the platform that proves you to be a genuine freelancer.. an area we expect HMRC to start sniffing around as the next government looks to find all the tax money it can to pay our outrageous national debt.
We don't necessarily endorse Industry unions, but BECTU can certainly help you out in this area. If you join, your
PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE is included within your BECTU membership, and they will advise on the Indeminty Insurance as well.
